What if you took the iconic Barbie – an iconic symbol of characteristics of female independence, fashion and beauty – and turn them into religious icons.

Yes, it’s true! When I heard (last December) that the exhibition was making it’s way to La Luz De Jesus, I bounce down to witness this religious magnification.

Argentine artist, Marianela Perelli and Pool Paolini, are the creators of ‘Barbie: The Plastic Religion’ collection. I first heard of the collection back in 2015 when it was making its way through Argentina to France with a widespread of controversy. In 2016, the collection was invited by Mattel and Les Art Decoratifs to display four of their pieces in the museum of decorative arts in the Palais du Louvre in Paris. It was there when they received in the Vatican by Pope Francis who accepted as a gift of ‘Our Lady of Lujan’ Barbie.

It was a pleasure meeting Marianela Perelli and Pool Paolini as I browse through the collection. We were impressed by the quality and detail of each Barbie had.
