SPECIAL GUEST
JJ Anderson
At the age of 21, JJ Anderson earned the title of youngest talk show host in America at an independent sports television network. During this time, she worked side by side with Mortal Kombat producer and the station’s founder Larry Kassanoff to deliver original quality programming on an international platform. Through hosting, JJ was able to discover a true passion for connecting with others and so she quickly began to take on the role of a producer in order to be more hands on with the process.
Recognizing the ample opportunity and freedom in digital media- JJ helped to establish LA based production company HRDWRKER, with the mission of creating inspirational on-demand content. Through HRDWRKER, she strives to help motivate her peers by exposing them to captivating stories of modern day trailblazers. Since the company’s establishment in 2014, JJ has had the amazing opportunity to create segments and series for various world-renowned media corporations and entities such as: NYLON, Juxtapoz Magazine, The California African-American Museum, Coca-Cola, and THINX.
AGENDA
11:00 – 11:30 am Meet ’n Greet
We’ll meet in the outside entrance of CAAM. Find GMD’s founder Diane Lindquist waiting to meet y'all. There you will briefly introduce yourself, describe what you are passionate about, and your current art obsession before we proceed to the museum.
11:30 am – 1:30 pm Museum Hop
We will begin to explore CAAM’s 'Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flus’ and then hope to USC Fisher Museum of Art’s 'Janet Sternburg: LIMBUS’.
CAAM’s 'Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flus’
Nina Chanel Abney is at the forefront of a generation of artists that is unapologetically revitalizing narrative figurative painting. As a skillful storyteller, she visually articulates the complex social dynamics of contemporary urban life. Royal Flush—her first solo museum survey—includes paintings, watercolors, and collages created over the past ten years. Abney draws on mainstream news media, animated cartoons, video games, hip-hop culture, celebrity websites, and tabloid magazines to make paintings replete with symbols that appear to have landed on the canvas with the stream-of-consciousness immediacy of text messages, pop-up windows, or the scrolling headlines of an incessant 24-hour news cycle. By engaging loaded topics and controversial issues with irreverence, humor, and lampooning satire, Abney’s works are both pointed contemporary genre scenes as well as scathing commentaries on social attitudes and inequities.
USC Fisher Museum of Art’s 'Janet Sternburg: LIMBUS’
