Come learn about Early Black Angelino life. For July’s GMD Los Angeles Tour, we’re heading to California African American Museum (CAAM) to get an historically inside on ‘The Liberator: Chronicling Black Los Angeles, 1900–1914’ from the family descended.

We will also stop by the remaining current exhibitions. This month’s special guest is Arianne Edmonds, Founder of the J.L. Edmonds Project. First 5 to arrive will get a GMD Official Button!

Arianne Edmonds

Arianne C. Edmonds is an Los Angeles native who has been collecting, archiving and exploring the complexities of early Black Los Angeles history through the lens of genealogy for the past 10 years. Making her to start J.L. Edmonds Project, a digital exploration life and legacy of her great grand father, a former slave turned, farmer, educator, political activist, real estate businessman, and founder & Editor of Los Angeles’ Liberator newspaper.

SCHEDULE

1:00 – 1:30 pm Meet ’n Greet

We’ll meet in the inside CAAM off to the side of the front entrance. Find GMD’s founder Diane Lindquist waiting to meet y'all. There you will briefly introduce yourself, describe what you are passionate about, and your current art obsession before we proceed to exhibitions.

1:30 – 2:30 pm Docent Led Tour with Arianne Edmonds of 'The Liberator: Chronicling Black Los Angeles, 1900–1914’

The first half to the tour will be dedicated to The Liberator: Chronicling Black Los Angeles, 1900–1914’. Arianne Edmonds will docent the tour. She will guide us through the exhibition highlighting some of the key historical pieces and answer questions you may have.

2:30 – 3:30 pm Explore Current Exhibitions

This is totally optional. Following the 'The Liberator: Chronicling Black Los Angeles, 1900–1914’ tour, GMD Founder Diane Lindquist will guide you through the rest of current exhibitions to explore.At any point, please feel free ask GMD Founder Diane Lindquist to take a picture. She is a expert Instagramer. First 5 to arrive will get a GMD Official Button! #GURLMusuemDay, official hashtag.

3:30 – 4:00 pm Announcements

At this time we will briefly have announcements of upcoming gatherings.


TRANSPORTATION

Parking is $12, cash only. Please note that parking lot entrance is at 39th and Figueroa. Take the Metro, CAAM is next to Expo Park/USC station – it’s about 5 minute walk from the museum.
